On Thursday, April 23, JANSI Annual Conference 2015 was held in the Iino Hall in Uchisaiwaicho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.

Mr Syunichi Tanaka, the chairman of the Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA), gave the keynote speech “Our Expectations toward the Nuclear Industry” and clarified his point that JANSI should demonstrate strong leadership in leading the Japanese operators to improve their individual nuclear safety voluntarily.

Following this keynote speech, a panel discussion “What the Nuclear Industry Needs to Do” was held in the Session 1. The panel was chaired by Mr Shojiro Matsuura, JANSI chairman, and the panellists included Mr Michiaki Uriu, the president of Kyushu Electric Power, Mr Tomohide Karita, the president and director of Chugoku Electric Power, Mr Akira Chiba, the president and director of Shikoku Electric Power and Mr Shigeyuki Koide, the president of Japan Association of Science & Technology Journalists.

In the Session 2, Mr Kiyoshi Naruse, JANSI director, introduced and explained “JANSI: FY2014 Activity Report.” Subsequently the poster session was opened in the hall foyer.

In the Session 3, a science Journalist Wako Tojima made a presentation on “Learning from the Emergency Response to the Great East Japan Earthquake.” Referring to this presentation, another panel discussion “Improving Responsiveness to Emergencies” was held with Mr Akira Yamaguchi, University of Tokyo graduate school professor, as the chair and Ms Wako Tojima, Mr Naotoshi Yoshikawa, the executive vice president of Central Japan Railway Company (JR Tokai), Mr Makoto Kaiwa, the president of Tohoku Electric Power, Mr Yasuo Hamada, the president of JAPC, Mr Takafumi Anegawa, the managing executive officer of TEPCO and Mr Matsuura, the JANSI chairman.

The conference was attended by approx. 460 people including the JANSI membership and domestic and international experts.
